How Are Dermal Fillers Administered?
What Are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid (HA), a compound that already exists in our skin that provides structure and hydration. Cosmetic physicians love HA fillers because they integrate naturally, break down gradually and are reversible, making them very safe and effective. Fillers are injected under the skin with fine needles or a cannula (blunt needle) to restore volume loss that occurs with aging or to enhance facial features.
Filler treatments are commonly used to improve the appearance of nasolabial folds, jowls and sunken temples or to enhance cheeks and lips. Different types of fillers are chosen depending on the area being treated. The goal is always to create a natural, balanced outcome.
Results are seen the same day, with ongoing improvements over the following weeks. You can expect minimal pain during the treatment and possibly mild bruising and swelling afterwards.
Filler treatments always begin with a consultation with Dr. Hatfield or our nurse injector, Jenilee. Together, we decide upon a plan that will fit your budget and goals.

How Many Dermal Filler Treatments Are Recommended?
Typically, 1 treatment session is sufficient for visible results, with maintenance sessions recommended every 6 to 18 months, depending on the type of filler used and the specific treatment area.
Is Dermal Filler Treatment Painful?
The procedure involves minimal discomfort, with most patients experiencing a slight pinching or pressure during the injections. Numbing agents are often used to reduce any pain or discomfort.
What Is the Downtime After Dermal Fillers?
Downtime is minimal, with most patients returning to daily activities immediately. Common side effects include temporary redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection sites, which generally resolve within a few days.
